New Jersey can file all the briefs they want, Sports Betting is going nowhere in Jersey or any place else except where it is legal today. It is just like----:bang::bang::bang:

I disagree.... Jersey will have sports betting and online poker live within the next 7 months.

When was it determined that it's acceptable for the federal government to tell some states they couldn't allow sports betting, while allowing other states that same right? Which administration declared their right to create such monopolies, at their own discretion? You think this government isn't a "big brother"? Think again, brother.

While you are certainly correct, the horsemen are still hypocrites as they have no issue with government intervention when it's forcing slots operators to set up shop at racetracks and support a failing Horseracing model.

Oh..Not so fast. This wind up as important test case.
NJ can literally blow up the legalized sports betting industry..That is IF the state can get this to a higher court. Hopefully the SCOTUS.

Theoretically, if NJ does not prevail, a ruling cannot be so narrow as to apply to only one state. That would be unconstitutional.
If NJ is barred, then so musty all other states.
In any event, the case will be an interesting one. I believe the federal law banning sports wagering is unconstitutional in that it violates the 10th ( States Rights) and the 14th ( Equal protection under the law).
This is going to be a big thing, NJ is not letting this go. Sports wagering can mean big bucks for NJ coffers and well deserved relief for taxpayers.

My prediction is that NJ will have sports betting by kickoff of the NFL season.

Can anyone think of any activity other than sports wagering that is legal in 4 states and illegal in 46?

What if, for example, marijuana was legalized in 4 states and the Feds decided they didn't want it legalized in any more states after a certain date? Same question re abortion and gay marriage.

The NJ case will be a game changer....and yes, NJ will have sports betting when all is said and done.

I totally agree... Once NJ gets it approved.. Delaware will be up in arms because they are limited to parlays. It would be nice to be able to go to one spot to bet horses, play poker and bet on sports without flying to Nevada.

The whole seems like something out of a time warp.

Any serious sports bettor will have a cable package deal to watch the games at home. They can then log on to a website and put the bets in.

Where do horsemen and casinos fit into this equation?

Perhaps there will be something in it for the industry?

What we have here is a lot of wishful thinking.
How many cases are appealed to the Court each year and how many cases does the Court hear?
The Court receives approximately 10,000 petitions for a writ of certiorari each year. The Court grants and hears oral argument in about 75-80 cases.

The odds are pretty strong that this case has been already settled and the lower court ruling will stand.

Sorry!!

I don't see any sports betting coming to other states soon, since I believe the mob still has a firm grasp on many illegal bookies, which somehow manage to stay in business. Also, any attempts to legalize sports betting will probably go the way of Illinois, where the ADW law can't even be reinstated as all the factions fight for the pieces of the bigger gambling pie (more casino licenses, higher taxes, etc).

That being said, it's only a matter of time before the state-level politicians see online sports betting and poker as a new "revenue" stream, and the mob's influence over them will wane as they get outbid by the kickbacks from online gaming.

I'd give it three to five years, with a year or two delay for the Supreme Court to step in and legalize it.

Marijuana? Maybe not the exact same number of states, but similar splits.

Sometimes it takes more then once to get a point across, but that duplicate post was not my fault, I have no idea how it posted twice because I only posted it one time only.

I am not going to get dragged into a silly argument.
You have your opinion. I have mine. Let's agree to disagree,
