i just heard Keith Jones announce that the race track has broken a record in attendance today. it was a beautiful day there, a friend called me earlier that was there and he was all bent out of shape because the mutual lines were real deep there and the place needed 3 times as many tellers.

the place has the greatest turf course in the world. its nice to hear that the people from the shore came out today to support great racing.

Where I was standing mid lane I didn't think the 5 nailed him....decent double I had a nice win play on the 3 (12.20) in the 5th

I don't think they were expecting that big a crowd today if u were on the apron and looked up into the grandstand it was packed to the rafters but the crowd thined out for the finale....

Maybe next year they should charge $1 admission and parking just so they can take that money and add another cheap race or two......

They clearly aren't out to get Rich off the public...in simulcast room meatball sub and soda was 3.85.....pretzel was 1.40 I think...

They won't do it but do 4 days in fall and 4 in spring it would be great.....

All in all great job by management

Well see the true racing fans who are gonna turn out for the tue/weds card in a downpour.....I wonder what would happen if a nor'easter type storm hit ac for a 2 day span would they cancel or run in a bog?

For boutique meets, yes they will turn out in the rain, and thats how the sport will survive in the long run, much much less racing days.

It's falling down and looks awful, though the turf course is still decent. No real money is put into it by Philly Park; they just run a few dates a year because they have to to keep simulcast rights and the right to someday open some of those 15 OTBs NJ was supposed to get a decade ago...

that was a nice win, especially since the camera was on the 2 horse coming back to the paddock after the race.

The TV coverage is pretty rough, I don't think it is the regular Philly crew, other than the announcer.

does anyone have any pics of the track?? Now, or back in the day. I've never been able to make it there, but I spent many a summer night at pimlico betting ACRC. One of my favorites.

Are you sure? The weather channel says 30% chance of rain on Tuesday, with winds at 15-25 mph. High of only 62-degrees.

I was planning on driving over to Atl on Tuesday, but not sure now. As they say in sports, maybe my trip will be a "game-time" decision, or at least made by Tuesday morning by 10:00 a.m.

I made it.

It's about 1 hour before post time. Weather actually looks better than I expected. Now, if I can only do some successful handicapping!. :)

Hi Al,

I think this would be something like my 6th visit to Atl. My first visit was something like 25 years ago, when they had a regular racing season. Back then, their big race was the United Nations Handicap.

Those turf races are so unpredictable and hard to handicap!

BTW, Saratoga and the PA gathering is not so far away. Looking forward to your usual thread and info. I need to make my lodging arrangements very soon. :)

Chris

Was going to say even I had gone to ACRC a couple years back and had a fun day. Couldn't imagine you hadn't been already.

Glad to hear you are coming this year again to Saratoga. I'll have to get that started up again. Have had the tickets for a couple weeks but been too busy to put thoughts together.
