As always looking to the best group of horseplayers ever assembled how would you guys handle this situation....

At atlantic city Friday 4/26 and if anybody has ever been in the simulcast room the tvs are from 1985 at the earliest....there is a machine on the far left of room but if u wanna see the screen from where your betting you gotta get up close to the screens with the glare coming in from the sun....

A good friend of my fathers is three with me he's 58 I'm 31 and we are stone cold degenerates.....when tilt sets in never saw a race I didn't like...12th race at freehold is as relevant as the ky derby...anyways....

My friend is betting at this window and taking his time to what doubles are paying now this 76 year old guy starts yelling at him "how long are u gonn stare at the tv and look at what your betting" my friend don't know what to say

74yr old: we got this guy betting 100 a race

Friend: excuse me sir do u think I'm betting $2 a race?

74; don't talk back to me I'll cause a scene in here...

Friend: I'm betting my Money I'll tell you when Im done...

Now keep in mind this guy never makes a bet unless he runs for his friend and blasts anybody that's at this machine..

Now I don't like this guy embarrassing Everybody....I myself am handling about 1000-1500 and my friend 2-3500.....

What do you guys say to this moron to put him in his place cuz I'm really tired of the bs.....

As always any good 1 liners are greatly appreciated in advance

I think the OTHER guy is/was right and your friend THE loser type...standing at the machine and blocking it is total BS in today's game...odds change DURING the race and often DRAMITICALLY due to the computer age...if he ain't figured THAT out by now....well...

Basically it means the person you are w/ is SELF centered...thinks he's smart...when in reality...NOT.

The OP was talking about the OTB at Atlantic City Racetrack. The sunlight is coming through a window or one of the many holes in the walls and ceiling/roof. Place looks like it is ready for implosion.

Personally, going to Saratoga all the time and i spend 95% of that time in the backyard to be by the paddock, walking ring. I can't stand people like your buddy. Those are the ones that i HOPE they leave their voucher behind because i ain't saying shit. I don't care if your betting 10 cents or 3 grand.....i do my handicapping BEFORE i'm even in line...some days its crowded as F^ck at the place, and it gets my ire when people are gawking at the program, and the odds while other people are waiting to bet. Its bad enough you have to wait on the "vacation, tourist" that don't have a clue....but i help them, we need new fans, they bet the faves most times (why i love betting there) and they have an excuse. People that know what they are doing and do that are jack asses IMO. Just because you are a serious bettor, you don't own the place.....these kind of people intimidate would be fans and bettors and piss the rest of us decent horseplayers off.

There's an economy of standing in lines. There's no difference with trying to checkout a loaded cart in the 10 aisle item line. Eventually, someone's going to take a swing. People are only willing to wait so long, if they can see you bullshitting around.

If I'm betting large to win, I want it in a spot where there is no record. But I'll avoid, the lower deck at SA because most of the non-English speaking people wait untill the last minute to play 10 cent exotic. And they stand there studying their programs. Why are they studying a pick 5 play five minutes before a race?

Yeah, I don't think anyone has any more right to the terminal because they are betting steak vs ground beef. Do your business, but either be pushing buttons or get out of the way. Or upgrade your play to a clubhouse.

Oh ok. I just saw him saying Atlantic City and simulcast room. Figured a casino. But man, I'm guessing they should a few bucks into it from what you guys are saying. Not good.

You mean to put your friend in his place for hogging the machine and checking odds at the last second and wasting time? Or to the patron who is waiting to use it next? When will people learn to have their bets ready prior to getting to the machine or the teller?

Of course, IMO, some bettors may hope that the person wasting time at the machine making last second bets and checking their 'notes' lose their bets. Whenever I see someone betting like this, I say to myself 'thank you' since their loses may help the odds on my horses.

Whiff I gotta say I find your posts very funny.

Your buddy should get the hell out of the way. To me the only thing more self-centered than standing at the window like your buddy does is driving 65 in the left lane on the NJ Turnpike and not giving a crap about the line of 20 cars behind you waiting to pass. If he likes to stand at the window, just keep letting one person at a time go in front of him until he is ready to bet.

A few years ago- Haskell Day at Monmouth Park- some guy was at the machine reading his Form. I politely asked him to either bet or get out of the way. He came back with the expected old-timer, "I'm an entitled racetracker" type response. I reached over and tried to push the "finished" button for him. Not a smart move because I'm sure he was there with his Goomba son or someone who probably would have piled-drove me into the apron, but I had a few in me at that point and was feeling my oats.

Anyway, your buddy Whiff is inconsiderate at the windows and should change his behavior.

I second that opinion. One of the worst parts of going to the track is having to put up with people like your friend -and you!

Couldn't agree more. The B.S. is the one standing at the machine waiting and thinking what to do. Move out of the way until you get it figured out!!

My favorite is when they stop in the middle of their wagering...and step a few feet away from the machine so they could get a better look at the odds.

Sometimes I'll walk right up to the machine when they are not looking...and I'll put my own voucher in there and start placing my own bets.

When they see me and start screaming that I am using their machine...I tell them that the machine was alone when I got there.

Good reason to bet at home - the track draws too many clods like that.
what used to get me was the idiots in the TC set areas, who pull out the ear plug and blast the track they are watching so everyone else who is NOT playing that track can't hear their own set. Too many A******* at the track for me.
Why bother?

I don't think it matters. Its about respecting other bettors and not tying up the machines. Nothing more frustrating then getting shutout because some a-hole is doing what your buddy does

The real dead money is the bets that get shutout because someone is taking too long at the machines.

Heard my friend say this to an older guy at Gulfstream Park..
The old guy accused my friend of cutting the line to a teller.
The old guy was just one of these bitter old "Cranky Yankees" which raise the average age of Florida to around 137.
Anyway, he tells my buddy, "If I was your age, I'd kick your ass"...My friend deadpans, "if I was YOUR age I'd kill myself"....Kind of cruel, but it stopped the conversation.

Two things....People that handicap at the window and those who NEVER have their money/voucher in hand and invariably, either are buried deep in the pocket or wallet which is never in the first pocket the guy tries
The former. This is the guy who is flipping pages in his DRF.
The latter digs and digs. He comes up with a wad of rumpled bills. This pain in the ass will for example make $20 worth of wagers and will try to do it all in Ones.

88.6 percent chance I use this tmrw......believe me I'm off a nice score at the the casino tomite and will be at the track With bells on....

Keep in mind I'm always respectful of my elders but at the same time because I'm young i I deserve a little respect at the track....in all fairness I'm not at the track with $43 in my pocket looking to drink beer...

I'm at harrahs ac Racebook the other night I wanna advance bet the maywood pick 4 it's about 7pm I go to the teller I never seen before and right away he think I'm the young punk that don't have a clue well I rattle of $126 pick 4 play and hes like "do u want this it's $126" I say yeah hit the send button ....

Better yet is the guy who overbets the amount on his voucher and has to try to shove cash in there to cover it....i buy my voucher from the teller and NEVER try to put cash into those damned machines, unless it's an emergency.

Also, i just love with all my heart the guy who cannot for the life of him decide how to spend that last $1.20...he makes a few bets and cancels them, then usually winds up with a show bet on the 4-5 chalk. Great, i just got shut out by some paillasse who turned $1.00 into $1.10
Just give me the buck-twenty and go home.

Has anybody ever had a voucher for 99.80 or 199.80 and try and catch a 2/5 to show to get it to a round 100 or 200 and wind of blowing whole voucher by chasing an ugly .20......it's happened to me....10 years ago I'd make the show bet get mad lose now down to 97.80 bet $5 on a 3/5 to win lose that then bet 20 on a 6/5 lose then go into a free fall

Having case $3 bet into a fairplex race on a Friday knowing if it blows I'm out of action til Monday....10 years ago that was me....I've come a long way;)

So you're betting thousands a day, or whatever you said earlier in this thread, but also don't have 20 cents to make your voucher a round number?

Something doesn't add up there.

I'm glad you're in the pools. You definitely come off as a Jersey Shore wannabe (we used to call them mooks, you're definitely a mook), and we need more of the "more muscles than brains" type.

There was one lady at the Meadowlands that constantly did both. She would stand in line and then and only then start 'handicapping' when it was her turn at the window. And after placing her snail-pace bets, she would dig through her purse for her billfold or whatever you call it and she would always find it at the BOTTOM of her bag.
