Just looking at the Tri prices for races 4, 5 and 6 and it seems like the tri's have come back really light. In race 4, the two dollar exa pays 88 and the tri pays 107.20

In race 6, the two dollar exa paid 102 and the tri only paid 392 with a 21-1 shot for third in a 10 horse field.

11-1 over 5-1 over 21-1 in a ten horse field ought to get you more than 392 for 2 bucks.

According to the HANA chart, it's 23% - pretty standard.

Hmmm. Must be some really sharp players hammering Tris up there, the exactas seem to be better value.

The pools are small. Usually less than $15,000 sometimes less than $10,000

the only place i saw any handle there last night was in a show pool, they had about $40k to show on one horse coming from the outside and the track had a slight inside bias last night. the horse got second money.

It depends on the individual pool sizes, and the way the players there play. At some tracks, most are betting the logical horses in the tri, but at other tracks, that isn't the case, so there are more winning tickets on the higher odds range payouts. But, if the tri pool is significantly lower than the exacta pool, then that is probably the culprit.

Today there is a lot of boxing going on in the exotics. So, in an exacta people are boxing 2,3 horses, so they might have one 20+/1 odds horse on the ticket, or maybe none. But, in the tri they box 3,4,5 horses which means they may have a couple of 20+/1 odds horses on the ticket, so when one or both of those 20+/1 horses hits in the tri, more people have the winning ticket, and they get less payout than in the exacta, especially if the tri pool is a lot less than the exacta pool, less money to split among the winners.

What kind of race was it? Was the winner making his/her debut, or coming off a lengthy layoff? Could've been the stable knew the horse was ready, and instead of hitting the win pool, hit the trifecta pool.

This stuff seemed to happen 3 times in a row, at least. Raybo suggests that pool sizes may have something to do with it, but from my experience at these smaller places, the players are 'less smart' than at the bigger places and therefore, you should get some value if you win.

I looked at that race briefly and it seemed pretty hard and i skipped the race entirely. The results suggested that it was difficult to select the top 3 in order and yet, it paid less than 200-1.

Maybe the win pool was inefficient and the winner was really a 5-2 shot in real life and just got ignored for whatever reason.

That still doesnt explain why the other tri's in the other races i mentioned were small by comparison.

In race 4, the exa paid 88 and the tri paid 107....you don't normally see this unless a 1-5 or 1-9 shot is 3rd and in this race, that wasnt the case.

"Less smart" was what I was eluding to when I said there is a lot of boxing going on. Box tickets, IMO, are stupid if done frequently. The cost outweighs the hit rate and payouts. Covering 5 horses in a 10 horse field, with a box ticket, costs much more long term, than what it will ever pay.

I think they did lower the Trifecta minimums to 50 cents this season.
