Whats up guys currently I'm living in south jersey but getting ready to move down to the Baltimore area to work at Maryland live casino....was wondering where are good places to live around there....kinda looking at a range from 800-1500 to rent....any help or suggestions would be great!!!

And to keep this thread relevant to racing discussion are there any otb around there or is lrl/pim the only game in town....I'm guessing if I wanna Go gamble in a casino I'll have to go to Charlestown or perryville...

Thanks to anybody with any help on this subject....

Went to the north east otb by perryville I enjoyed it there....it was my first day training there and while I had a big pick 3 going the hr dept calls me and offers me 10k less like they were doing me a favor....all Hollywood casinos are nickel and dime

Your going to be working at Arundel Mills?

The Laurel Park area will be the nicer option. Probably take all of your budget. But then you have to deal with more traffic. But a nicer area to live.

Stay west of the mall if you can afford it.

East of the mall is Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park.

Glen Burnie has some very rough areas. Pasadena is ok, 14-20 minute ride to work if you time it right.

You re going to arrange your life around mall traffic. Unless you are working 3rd shift. Last I heard mall employees were not allowed to park on site. Must bus in from the airport. You might want to check on that.

Whatever you do, don't live anywhere near the hospital, Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

I'm not sure how current the link is, but the Cracked Claw in Frederick closed back in October/2011 along with the associated OTB parlor.

Thank you very much Ralph.......yes gonna be in the poker department there......trying to avoid living with roommates for first few months(roommates would be my friends from ac) but with the lack of time it may be my best option....

Off the bat looking forward to going to the tracks and oriole games I don't think it will be a prob getting seats for either place

if you have to choose between going to Laurel or Pimlico, definitely go to laurel, Laurel is pretty poor but Pimlico is an absolute dump. in Northwest Baltimore in one of the four or five worst neighborhood in the city. when you start working at the casino, definitely give yourself some extra driving time in the beginning. traffic its very slow on a arundle Mills Boulevard..

I'll have to disagree, I enjoy going to PIM more than LRL

Yes the PIM area is shady, but so is the Hollywood Park area. They put quite a bit of money into PIM this year and I was very impressed opening day. To me, PIM has more of a racetrack feel than LRL does. Great sightlines and the history behind the place amazes me.

At LRL you have to pay just for a seat in the simulcast area, if you want to lay your form down. This year at PIM, every Friday is free admission and a live program! ;)

Agree. Pimlico has more of a live-racing racetrack feel. Laurel, I get the impression they would prefer not to have real horses or fans.

Walking back to my car parked 10 blocks away through the residential neighborhood around Pimlico after the Preakness two years ago, my last visit, it felt like things were cleaner and safer than they had been a few years back.

maybe things have gotten better, I haven't been in a couple years, because management, wouldn't do anything about the stoopers,, stealing your tickets or programs in the sports palace. back in the day I used to get goosebumps everytime I got near the track I was so excited.

Never been to Laurel, but i love the feel of Pimlico...that's a racetrack.
There's history there - rich history

I attend the Preakness every year with the men in the family (and extended family) and have the time of my life.
Three days of racing excess, spending time with my father and brother doing what we love.

It's funny, the racing on Black Eyed Susan Friday and Preakness Saturday is fantastic....but the Thurs card is always awful. I guess all the good horses on the grounds are running Fri and Sat :D
we play it anyways

Pimlico money clip was among my father's possessions. May have been a giveaway at one time.
Hopefully it's good luck.

Thanks guys really appreciate it......yes I get the feel just from watching on simulcast that pimlico is the more" racetrack" of the 2...

I'm really looking forward to one day when it's quiet just sit out in the grandstand and vision some of the Preakness and other races that have made history.....some that come to mind (I'm on young side so forgive me if I forget)

Secretariats huge charge on first turn

That great 3 way finish between silver charm free house and captain bodgit

Smarty Jones blowing field away

The scene when that fan jumped out and swung at artax

And sadly look at the first turn where Barbaro took those bad steps...arguably the biggest story in racing in the 20 or do years I've been following it was like the whole world was watching when he broke down all the eyes of the sports world

Could be pretty cool to sit there around 6:15 on a Saturday and just picture the crowds and great racing with nobody around but you....

I really can't wait to get down there

Pimlico is my favorite track of all time.
I used to drive down a lot, making a circuit of Pocono, Penn National, Keystone, Liberty Bell, and Pimlico.

Still love Old hilltop - even with a the short season now.

Agree..that's a great curcuit to follow Tom....my father tells me Pocono used to race flats and I think I heard also that "the bell" used to have flats too..

Whenever it's my father and his friends around I always here liberty bell war stories.....wish I was lucky enough to be there...."the bell"!!!! I've heard more winning stories there....
