I am going over some historic charts and finding some races with 5 calls, but only 4 fractional times. How can this be; And if it's not a mistake, which times line up with which points of call.

thanks
Ed

Thanks. Do you have an equivalent for equibase.com PDF charts.

It is the same. Equibase is the standard the others follow currently.

It's been many years since I looked at a DRF (Iget my data by another means), but the "missing" call is almost certainly the BREAK CALL-indicated horses position as soon as horses left the gate (or as soon as the chart-caller could pick them up). Many, many years ago, I actually devised, and used, with a modicum of success, a "system" for sprints, utilizing the break call.

The way a horse breaks is VERY important. For Early horses, it's important in determining whether the horse can actually get to, or near, the lead, where it can utilize its early speed. Even for off-the-pace types, it's important in determining whether the horse can get good position----avoid being fanned wide, avoid being pinned on the rail, etc.
