What's up gentlemen/ladies of the board.....I just got outta work and I've been brainstorming a way for the "average" horse player with a $500 a day bankroll who isn't exactly the sharpest handicapper in the world to survive....

I work at a casino and tomite a player asked me if I gamble...99 percent of the time I say I don't gamble but tonite being I was tired of talking about the Boston bombings I wanted to talk a little horses

Player asks me robert how can I win betting horses....now I don't wanna get into explaining that pick4s with low takeout are the way to go or betting supers or exacta keys I wanted to make it short and simple for him I told him this...(keep in mind this guy has a endless stream of money and I've looked down and seen him betting 500 on bj or baccarat like it was flapjacks...) I can see him picking my brain for horses cuz he has pumped me for info on sports but sports is done now till football

I say u wanna cash tix look at the new York tracks and the California tracks and when u see a 2/5 or 1/5 bet $200 to win on him....I keep coming up with this idea can it actually work? I mean 1/5s shouldn't get beat And this guy is looking for a little action....

If u hit 3 out of 5 1/5s u really don't get killed....and it keeps him out of the pits going for his lungs.....I don't know but I'm pretty sure I can find 1 or 2 locks a day at 1/5 that should blow fields away

What do u guys think is this a horrible idea or is there a better way to go about this....plus the casino gives a very nice rebate to the horse player if they bet over 2500 for day....

still minus EV, and if I remember other studies, not much difference in EV then any other odds range, the only difference is variance/hit rate versus other odds groups.

Whats the rebate percentage? 1.5-3%?

Yes, it's a terrible idea.

A better idea for someone who knows nothing would be to just study the board and try and come up with some 'discrepancies' in the odds. Write down the pick 3, pick 4 and pick anything probables and make a "morning line" based on the probables and then try and capitalize on horses who are higher win prices than usual. Sometimes you might get 5-1 on a horse who is the shortest 'probable' in the pick 4.

I wouldnt advise to blindly bet 1-5 shots with the logic that 'how can the public be wrong'.

If I had $500, I would not go near a race track.

$1 for lower tier players and up to $3.80 for top tier players and points can be transferred to cash at a 1/1 ratio

Not as good as the big m club that gives $1 on 90 and for higher average players $4 on a 100

I think your method is ridiculous. $500 dollars would buy a lawnmower and a magnetic sign, for the side of a truck.

I'm gonna stand by this theory after giving it thought....I realize this forum has some very sharp players......in my life I'm buried betting horses and that's after taking 17500 out of yonkers one nite

I'm not afraid to say I lose but I've went for 400 more times in my life betting 18 and 24 a race then anybody on here :) if I just made 2 200 win bets on 1/5s I would have a ton of extra money in pocket right now

If your "friend" bets 1/5 horses to win:

He will have to hit 80% winners to make a loss of 4%.

So after 10 $500 bets, he will lose $200.

When I bet 1/5's, I like them to be there at 3 minutes to post. They sometimes drift up to 2/5 or even 3/5 by the time all bets are collected, as people correct the spread by betting the 2nd and 3rd choice horses.

Way back when I was a stupid high-school kid I wanted to bet a "sure thing" 1/9 favorite to win who was shipping up from Hollywood Park.

My dad said "If you HAVE to bet that (expletive-deleted) horse then bet him to show 'cause he'll pay the same whether he wins or shows".

Duhhh...So I gave my dad two bucks for a ticket.

He was eased before the first turn.

Dad said "You're almost as dumb as that (expletive-deleted) guy who just claimed him".

In my opinion, you couldn't be taking a worse approach to this game.

I completely understand the desire to increase your bankroll with as little mental investment as possible and equally little risk as possible. Aint gonna happen in this game.

NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, is free in horse racing.

Having said that, I do think there are 3-4 horses per weekday and 5-10 per weekend that are virtually locks to hit the board. While I am not a show better for the most part, I've toyed with the idea of taking a day and betting nothing but large show bets and picking my spots. I haven't tested it, but I think I could scratch out a long term profit. Problem is, I'm too greedy :)

Years ago, my dad would keep a voucher in his wallet when we would visit Canterbury during the summers. He started with $200 and would bet the entire voucher to show when he found horses that looked impossible to miss the board. One summer, he ended up with about $1300 from that $200 as he basically parlayed it daily. He would go many days without making a bet and, at that point, his money wouldn't as dramatically impact the show pools as they would today at some of the smaller tracks.

Finally, I remember giving my dad $20 when I was 17 and he was going to the track. I picked 6 horses running that day and asked him to do a show parlay on those 6. I listened on the radio and realized my $20 had turned into $140 going into the last race. My horse ran 3rd and he brought me home something like $180. Probably the reason I'm still hooked on the game. :)

 Love those.

Boat one I think is real.
Driveway pole was there and they rebuilt house. You can see it's new. Old Pole position was being moved.
Pool wire is fake. The guys set it up at a gag. Never was plugged in and white power plug is hollow.
