Wrong strategy. You're probably right. In fact we considered that a few weeks in. But once committed we decided to stick it out.

Hey, it's not like we completely embarrassed ourselves...

Really ENJOYED this. :D

This is more direct. You'll have to find the sign up thread for team members.

I certainly wasn't knocking you guys. I just noticed right away what you were doing and thought it was interesting.

Trust me, there is MUCH worse strategy being employed in the Run to the Roses contest daily.

I think it's absolutely wild that Team Jcapper made the most money of any team, and not only didn't they make the playoffs...they didn't even come close.

And team Pear Shaped won three weeks outright, and finished 10th overall...

This is an interesting contest, given those facts...

It's all about consistency, we realized early on that if you could generate at least ($400+) weekly, you would finish in the top 5. Using 2 horse selections reduced your chances of consistent play. Sure you could have some great weeks, but you would also end up having some brutal ones as well, which would end up affecting your overall standings.

I'm not sure of the rules in the playoffs, but i think that strategy would not work in the playoffs. I think you will have to start taking more chances, and swing for the fences a little more often.

An interesting stat....
Through 15 weeks of play, $6426.00 was wagered. That means only 5 teams turned out a slight profit. It probably would have been 6 teams if The M Team hadn't missed out on the first week, but i have to give them a lot of credit, they started out in the hole $432.00, and they just about broke even, nice work guys.

I must say, PA did a fine job picking difficult races, he had me pissed off on several occasions, and probably is the main reason why teams had a hard time breaking even.

Thanks goes out to Trotter, for all your hard work and for putting up with my stupid questions. As well Track Collector deserves a big thank-you, you guys did a great job.

Best of luck to everyone in the playoffs.

Congrats to RDSS Team Sartin on their regular season win. Nicely played guys. It makes me want to pull out my old Follow Up manuals and recharge the old brain stem.

Congrats to Team Sartin and all teams moving on (including us)! This contest again has been great fun and selection of races couldn't be better. I'd encourage all here to form a team and join up next year.

I am not much for team contests. This was my first time playing (Team Carry On, Carry On) and we did make the playoffs with a touch of consistency. I prefer contests that are about money won (I am sure Team JCapper would agree) but you have to adjust to the rules.

RDSS sure did show their stuff in the regular season but now we get a clean slate. Should be interesting to see how it turns out.

In closing, a huge thanks to Jay Trotter and others for a very tightly run contest and quick and accurate scoring updates. Much appreciated and added to my enjoyment.

I just wanted to point out, had Team Locks posted their selections for week 15, they would have walked away with first place. I just feel a little uneasy with the way it ended, truth be told. I don't blame them for taking the week off, they deserve a lot of credit, they really played well.

Absolutely true.

But in my own instance, and not speaking for the rest of my team, there were many races that I would have "passed" instead of wagering on, for a variety of reasons.
I'm sure that there are many other handicappers who participated who would have done the same. In the contest though you are expected to submit a play - whether you would play the race or not.
Just because there are races, doesn't mean that you have to bet.

Chief among those reasons (for me, at least) being the inability under the contest format to compare fair odds with actual odds prior to making selections.

I love the format of this contest. It rewards consistency. If we were trying to accumulate the largest dollar total, we would change our strategy.

As Greyfox said, If I were betting real money, I wouldn't play every race offered.

Great contest
