Glad to hear it! I was only there once but one could easily see it's greatness.

I was at Fort Erie just once for a few races in the spring of 1985. Beautiful track.

they didn't release much specific......enough cash to run this year with 50 race days, down from 75 last year.

How is this great news? We need fewer race tracks so we can larger fields and fewer horses being butchered. At least half the tracks in North America need to close. This merely putting off the inevitable and hurts racing in the short run. Everybody want to save their local track, but that is not possible. The quicker we go through this weeding out process, the better!

Post something when you go. I was hoping to get there, too. Maybe we can meet.

this is great news, what this game really needs is to shore up the race tracks that are open now and then open many more of them.

You are nuts if you think we need more tracks. Don't we have enough 5 and 6 horse fields already?

They are already that is the problem.

So close Aqueduct then. They are the track having field size problems, not Fort Erie.

I checked my database and found 517 races for Fort Erie last year. Here is a field size break down:

There were no two or three-horse fields.

Four-horse - 4
Five-horse - 34
Six-Horse - 129
Seven-horse - 135
Eight-horse - 85
Nine-horse - 54
10 or more - 76

67.7% of races had seven or more starters.

Comparing that to Aqueduct. From January 1, 2012 to March 30th,2013, I found 1502 races. Here is a field size break down:

Two-horse - 9
Three-horse - 4
Four-horse - 33
Five-horse - 157
Six-horse - 292
Seven-horse - 325
Eight-horse - 267
Nine-horse - 196
10 or more - 219

67.0% of races had seven or more starters.

The difference is people actually bet on Aqueduct.

Thanks for the stats, Helles.

CJ, of course you are right.

But I don't see closing Fort Erie and tracks of its ilk as a good thing for the game.

I have no problem with tracks that don't have casinos staying open. It is the ones that would be long gone without slots that really hurt the game.

The handle between the two tracks isn't even close. That said, they get equal amounts of MY play. Two of my best tracks.

Are you sure about the # of races at Aqueduct with only 2 starters? That's roughly 1 race per month with only 2 starters.

I don't remember any match races at Aqueduct, let alone 9.

That's what I was thinking as well. I can't claim that I've never missed a race at Aqueduct the past 15 months, but I can't recall any match races either.

I ran the filter again for AQU looking for a field size of 2. I again got nine. But, when I go to look at those races, there are none there. So, I run for a field size of 3 and I again get four races. THOSE four races are there. Why the filter picks up nine two-horse fields, I don't know.

You guys have accurate memories. Sorry about the faulty information reference the two-horse fields. I have checked the other field sizes and they appear to be correct.

There seems to be a bug. I ran the year 2011 looking for two-horse fields at AQU. I got nine races and again and it doesn't appear there were any match races in 2011 either. Can another HSH user run a filter for AQU looking for two horse fields and see if you also get nine races and PM me?

The difference is people actually bet on Aqueduct. Bettors do not matter, right? (At least from what I keep seeing on this board all the time! ) slots, horsemen and purses, that is the key to running racetracks
