View Full Version : Fair Grounds Pick 5 Mandatory Payout?

Looks like we have yet another jackpot pool mandatory payout day on a collision course with Easter Sunday, 3/31, closing day at the FG meet.

Does anyone know "for sure" if the mandatrory payout for the 50 cent Black Gold Pick 5 will be on Sat., 3/30, Louisiana Derby Day or on Easter Sunday?

Of course we know NYRA will be closed on Easter Sunday. In NJ, the folks over at Favorites just told me that they will be closed on Easter Sunday. The Meadowlands will also be closed for simulcasting. That leaves Winners in Bayonne and Freehold Raceway as the two NJ venues that will be open, unless you want to count the pathetically racing unfriendly Atlantic (We chose not to sign a contract to take the Rainbow 6) City.

Just heard back from Donovan Ferguson, the parimutuel guy at the Fair Grounds. After much discussion, they decided to have the mandatory payout for their 50 cent Black Gold Pick 5 this Sunday, closing day.

Oh, well, guess its time to fire up my njbets/tvg account. Does TVG have live telephone operators? I may be calling in my Pick 5 bets from a restaurant during Easter dinner. :)

So, they decided to be a racetrack and not a house of worship!

Awesome, gives me one more day to prepare!

There are probably more prayers said at the race track.

Looks TOUGH. Large fields, this thing could pay boxcars.

One of my oldest favorite racetrack jokes is: What's the difference between praying at church and praying at the track? At the track, you really mean it. :p

For those in the North Jersey/Staten Island area, this could be an oversight on the part of Winners OTW in Bayonne, but their simo schedule for Easter Sunday includes only Gulfstream, Sunland, Santa Anita and Golden Gate. No Fair Grounds listed.

This makes Freehold Raceway the only venue in NJ where you will be able to wager with a live teller on the FG Black Gold 5 at the .50 minimum on closing day with the mandatory payout.

Today's going to be tough, small pool again, and big fields.

Tough card with lots of sprints and no true speed in most of them. Turf races with most horses coming off dirt races due to all the rain and off tracks at FG I would think. Then to close it, a 12 furlong turf race with little or no back races at the distance.
Going to play a little but not go nuts. Just a question to anyone willing to share a little information. Don't need any specific numbers as I don't want anyone getting in trouble for "sharing" info but can anyone tell me which 3 horses have the highest Thomlinson numbers for turf/distance in the 12th race? Just need the horse number, not the actual numbers. Would be very much appreciated.

Thaskalos-- thanks for the numbers. As I would have guessed, top 3 in each are all different. There is no common horse, making this race a total toss up. Not going to go crazy but want to take a small shot at the pools so maybe just the top from each list. Thanks again and good luck.

Vinman- at least they are open in Bayonne. Favorites in Woodbridge is closed tomorrow.

Bennie....I actually called Winners today and it turns out that they are taking FG today.

Favorites in Woodbridge needs a swift kick in the butt. Yesterday I stopped in and told them that the Sunday brunch listed on the Winners website is top notch, something they should have at Favorites as well. After all, the food at both places is run by McLoones. The woman in charge at the desk told me they used to have a Sunday brunch at Favorites, but they stopped it over a year ago. She didn't know why.

I'd be willing to bet that Jeff Gural is the reason why Winners offers such a quality brunch. He wants to attract customers and keep them coming back. Favorites doesn't really seem to care.

Okay, I've put together a play for the Black Gold 5 finale. I've decided that I don't want to blow a $2,268 hole in my bankroll before the Rainbow 6 finale on Friday, so I'm not putting this play through the windows. It is "just for fun":

Ticket 1: 3,4,8,10 / 1,2,3,8 / 2,3,12 / 3,7,12 / ALL $648

Ticket 2: 3,4,8,10 / 1,2,3,8 / 2,3,12 / 1,9,11 / 1,2,4,6,8 $360

Ticket 3: 3,4,8,10 / 1,2,3,8 / 6,8,9,10,11,14 / 3,7,12 / 1,2,4,6,8 $720

Ticket 4: 3,4,8,10 / 6,9,10 / 2,3,12 / 3,7,12 / 1,2,4,6,8 $270

Ticket 5: 7,9,11 / 1,2,3,8 / 2,3,12 / 3,7,12 / 1,2,4,6,8 $270

The horses that appear only once are my "B" horses. We shall see.

I'm risking $27 total.

P5 = (4,7,10) - (1,6,8) - (2) - (7,9,12) - (2,6) = $27

GOOD LUCK! AT LEAST YOUR ALIVE IN THE LAST

Good thing this was just a "dry run", although it actually turned out to be a "wet run" towards the end.

Victory in the P5 could have been snatched from the jaws of defeat by going 4 deep with my "A" horses in race 11. This puts the first time Louie Rousell 1 horse, with first time lasix and a very nice slop pedigree ($13) on tickets 1,3,4 & 5 and takes him off ticket 2.

Making that changed ups the cost of the play by $516, from $2,268 to $2,784, resulting a "juicy" Black Gold 5 payoff of $5,778.65.

On to the Rainbow 6. Friday's GP BRIS PP's are up. :)

on that RPK6 on Friday: six races of 12-horse fields, each with two AE's. Nothing will come cheap, as it should be.

Sure looks like a single ticket "cave man" approach is out of the question. Can't wait to see how the Twin Spires boys approach the R6 finale.
