Somebody must think that this group is a bad group htey have selected. Either that, or some rich owner has a horse he nominated, and is just chillin on a farm, knowing they have a great 3yo :)

The bettor probably wagered early to hopefully keep others from betting the field, thus getting a better price if it were to be a winning bet. Pretty smart actually!

Smart, yes, but thirty grand three months before the gates are sprung? Don't mean to spark anything, but this sounds an awful lot like when Master David won the Sham; odds dropped through the floor when the gates sprung, and the horse won. This sound suspicious to anyone else?

First of all .. to clarify .. the field for the Derby & Oaks would be all
other 3yos not listed as individual betting interests. So, when you bet the field, you get any other 3yo except for the 23 individuals listed.

As for the $30k bet being "suspicious" .. it seems to happen every year .. someone dumps a ton of money on the field .. I know this is definitely not the first time it's happened .. sounds like a risky bet to me .. because since the Future Wagers were introduced several years ago, most of the Derby winners were listed on Pool 1 .. I think Charismatic and War Emblem were the
exceptions .. and both of those horses paid much, much more generously on Derby Day than as part of the Field.
