Field is going to be amazing. I want to see T.A.M chase down super99.

Tiz a Minister had a setup last time and still couldn't get by Flashback even. If it's going to be a closer, then I'm guessing Hear the Ghost takes it.

Too many Baffert runners in the race, that kinda ruins it for me with one guy having that much power to determine the race shape.

But, i'm sure the undercard will be fantastic!

The convention wisdom is that Facebook ran a race that was superior to Hear the Ghost because he was close to the fast pace. Haybe so, but unless something changes I would bet HTG right back.

Flashback is the best of the two IMO. He's the stronger, more complete horse, and you can blame tactics for his loss.
However, neither is a lock as a super horse at this point. I think Baffert will have both ready to rumble. The complimenting styles only strengthen that argument. -If Super Ninety Nine runs huge, it's not going to make Flashback quit or anything.

Normally Super Ninety Nine would be a toss with being "2nd string" and vs. Golden Cents. However he's also at home for this race, and his loss was on the road.

Tough betting race.

Tiz a Minister and Hear The Ghost are both interesting if you believe the pace scenario will be heated.

Of the two, I like Hear The Ghost better. His San Pedro was visually impressive, and his actual fractions surprisingly back up the visuals. He was 10 lengths closer than Tiz a Minister in the San Felipe. Less vulnerable to a speed favoring situation.

I'll probably just root for Flashback, and an overall great race - unless I see a big value.

RS has these horses in ranking order: 4 Tiz A Minister, 1 Flashback, 6 Super Ninety Nine, 5 Goldencents. Using FVIV rankings as I always do in high dollar races, especially 3 yos.

I think the race will fall into the lap of Power Broker.

Is he ready & good enough for this off the bench?

Looking at the odds board, Tiz a Minister makes the most sense.

I don't like Flashback at all after that race.

Orb, Normandy Invasion.
Then the rest.

Six dirt races today at Santa Anita. All six winners were 1st or 2nd after two furlongs. In one race, the two early duelers both floundered through the last furlong in about 13.9 seconds and still they finished 1-2.

The horses coming out of Florida this year look way stronger than Calif.

That's coming from a guy who has 80-1 futures on Flashback.
He looks like a big baby who has no extra gear when needed.

Orb, Normandy Invasion, Verrazano, Revolutionary, Vyjack, Itsmyluckyday, all have better credentials than the west coasters.

They still have to run the race, though........ ;)

The winner at SA today has plenty of credentials, going back to the Delta race. He made some pretty good horses look ordinary that day.

I noticed before his last race that GC had some nasty looking kidney sweat going on.
Caused me to bet a Ghost/Flashback ex box going to post.

I knew he was better than his last race, but I still don't think he wins the roses.

The biggest kick that I would get out of Doug O'Neill winning back to back KY Derbies (which I don't think will happen) would be his choice of riders.

Mario Gutierrez and Kevin Krigger.
Just make sure you have an exceptional horse and a capable jockey.

Flashback ran alright. Goldencents got the drop on him which was vital in winning races today at SA. I expect the winning Beyer to be around 104 (certainly higher than what I expect from the Wood, which featured a weak pace set by a hopeless longshot). I do wonder about an extra furlong for Flashback but that's a fairly common refrain these days.

I didn't think Verrazano was particularly impressive today and he had a dream pace scenario; Normandy Invasion might've ran the better race. And Orb, for all that people are high on him, still hasn't shown that he can run a fast time.

Depending on the Beyer #, you have to figure he will be around 12-1.

RXB

I can't see Goldencents being 12/1. Unless somebody pops a big one in the Blue Grass or the Arkansas Derby he'll have the highest last-race Beyer figure, because the SA Derby is clearly the fastest prep so far. And his trainer won the Derby with an unheralded jockey last year. He's going to be bet.

I'd be careful. Like last year, I suspect the CA crop is better. Last year it was miles better - miles, and few thought so at this point. Let's see what War Academy does in the AK Derby first.

The fact is, IMO, nobody will know who is stronger until Derby time, when all the data is in, and we know the makeup of the field. All this conjecture is way too premature.

great call on the winner Precocity.

I had pretty much eliminated Golden Cents from Derby contention. Now he looks as strong as ever.

I think this is a very nice crop, and am happy that some of these preps have ended up adding, rather than eliminating, solid contenders.

The higher Beyer number for the SA Derby probably took care of any overlay on Goldenscents, though.

He was 6-1 the first time his number came up right after the break. It remained at 6-1 until the horse took the lead, at which point the odds were taken off the video. He paid $15, which is 6.5 to 1, so I'm not sure what the problem is here.

No problem I'm just asking what happened with the odds? Did GC take heavy late action? I thought someone here may have tracked the odds and could provide specific information.

I did see a 14-1 to 9-1 drop during a race recently at SA. I imagine with the pool size for the SA Derby a pretty hefty bet would be required to drop the odds three points on the last click. Still nice pick on your part.
