Win7 Virtual Machine XP Mode problem

I'm having a problem with my program desktop icons on my XP mode in the Win 7 Pro Virtual Machine.Everytime i click on an icon w/the left button of my mouse,nothing happens.I have to use the right button to click it and click 'Open' before it runs.It just happened today.I'd appreciate any help to get it back to normal.

Does left clicking work anywhere or just the icons? There are mouse options in the control panel, but you've probably already been there.
I've done a system restore when I've had problems and it usually works.

Hopefully this is a dumb question but when you say 'click on an icon', do you mean double-click? Single click works on the taskbar and Start menu but not the desktop.
