the opening day card looks great with 2 MSW races and a top money allowance.

it looks like they raised the purses for this meet, the field sizes are bigger as well.

this has been a long 9 weeks without THE MOUNTAIN, i for one is glad to have them back.

Big fields, excellent value and always a big price somewhere on the card. Welcome back spring, robins and Mark and Nancy. Thank god that Mon and Tues nights will have some action. Any new riders or trainers this meet?

the place is dad bang rail, 3 out the first 4 won from post position #1. the other one won out of the #10. that is going to be a homerun, because he is a bet back next out in nw3. that is how you play "THE MOUNTAIN".

they had snow this evening, and the track is right next to a river and they are not allowed to put chemicals on the track, plus it is pretty cold there.

There is a meeting tomorrow with the trainers and jocks to go over the icing conditions on the track I would say tomorrow will be cancelled but Tuesday they will run as it is expected to be above freezing.

Had my eye on him as a potential upsetter last year. I know he's better than last night's effort.

mountainman,

Hi. What's the outlook for racing tonight? I know the Pittsburgh area is calling for snow late this afternoon and into tomorrow.

Thanks.

I really appreciate the job you and Nancy do on the program.

Race 4 : 92-1 horse wins

Race 5: 1-5 finishes out of the trifecta

.... still four races to go. I would have been better off it they would have canceled, lol...
Was alive in the pick 3 when I "ALL'd" the 90-1 shot leg but singled the 1-5 horse.

$31,291 Early Pick 4

Correction... Pick 4 pool was only $20k so half that payoff.

Looks as if someone also took down the entire Pick 3 pool for an $8 k payoff.

Whilst you're there, would you consider floating a
"Loss Leader" $.50 Pick-5 with 15% Takeout to him?
You'd have to tweak one of your Pick-3's to avoid overlapped bets,
but if put the Pick-5 on Races 3-thru-7, & Move Early Pick-3 to race#4,
You Could bet horizontal exotics starting in every Leg but last race
Race1=DD;
Race2=Pick-4;
Race3=Pick-5;NEW
Race4=Pick-3 moved
Race5=Pick-4;
Race6=Pick-3.
While there, might as well add
Race7=Pick-3;NEW
Race8 or Last2Races=DD.

As everyone else has gone that route I appreciate that the Mountain has kept the base mins. the way they are.

Bob,

I don't think there's enough money to go around to add a pick 5.

Oaklawn & Mountaineer keep things simple, I love that.

Oaklawn has 10 cent supers.
MNR has moved to 50 cent supers, but you can't play a 50 cent straight ticket because it has to have a $2 minimum total value.

Most races at OP only offer WPS, Ex, Tri wagering.

A few pick 3s, a pick 4, and the Classix. More simple than most.

Mountaineer may not have the "BEST" racing but it is one of my favorite B/C tracks and it sure serves a purpose out east.

My favorite part of it - the announcer. Peter Berry gives clear, concise calls with exciting finishes. Many will disagree with me, but he is, in my opinion, the best announcer. Tampa should get rid of Grunder and install Berry.

i love Peter Berry, and I love Grunder as much. they are both first class gentlemen. for years and years, the great Keenland never had an announcer period. not only that, but the saddlecloths were not color coded either back then. we didn't have a problem with them.

They don't torture you with stupid music or inane advertising.

Ray usually works horses at Gulfstream while Mountaineer is closed. He usually comes back in April.

As much as I have tried (sort of) I cannot for the life of me figure out the mountain.

Tons of horses, it seems, are just out for workouts. A lot of drop downs. Too many 10 length wins. I dont know. Perhaps I will give this spring meet a look, but this place has never been favorable to my handicapping ability.

any tips? :confused:

Our director or racing informed me that wv has a rule requiring a minimun expenditure of $2, which makes 10 cents an impractical increment.

I figured it was a WV thing because it's the same deal at CT.
I play straight supers calculated from a program i wrote. there are only a few tracks that won't accept a straight 10 or 20 cent super. oh well, thanks for asking.

Nancy and Mark both gave us a winning horse. 7-1 at the time, everyone got wise and bet him down to 3-1... unfortunately new/unknown jock rode him like a gorilla on a giraffe to finish 2nd. There was an objection on the winner but didn't hold.

Race 3 the #2 ....

looking forward to the rest of the night

Not knocking the selection, but isn't taking a new/unknown jock part of the equation? Also, the horse was the ML fave, so the bet down not a surprise.
