I've mainly been betting at 5 harness tracks lately. Here's how I've been generally faring out results-wise, so far this year (in descending order from best to worst with my plus or minus ratings)
1. Dover Downs +++
2. Balmoral Park ++
3. Cal Expo +
4. Woodbine -
5. The Meadowlands - - -
--Naturally, very pleased with the results at Dover Downs, especially in the last couple of weeks.
--Quite happy with playing Balmoral Park. Not quite as good as Dover Downs overall, but can't complain
--Don't get many plays at Cal Expo due to an abundance of cheap claiming and condition races, but results have been satisfactory so far.
--Not that great at Woodbine so far this year. I may need to change the odd handicappng strategy here and there.
--It's been a major disappointment betting the Big M races thus far. Can hardly cash a ticket. I like the quality of the Friday and Saturday evening cards, but I need to do a major overhaul of my handicapping strategies at this track. Just like the Meadowlands shuffle out on the track, I'm getting the Meadowlands shuffle results-wise, right to the bottom of the ladder!
How's everyone else making out playing the harness races so far this year?
Thanks,

so far more luck at b1 than m1 this year, but its early. i just had 2 weeks of vacation and haven't had time to get into b1 again yet, so i'll probably stick to m1 for now. imo you have to be patient at m1, t2w. if you're confident in your handicapping methods stick to your guns and demand value, the hits will come.

I would have to say my best results so far would be:
1) Yonkers
2)Dover
3)Balmoral
4)Meadowlands
5)Maywood/Monticello
I'd prefer to play Dover right now than the rest of the tracks. I watch the Meadowlands alot but don't bet that often unless there is something I really like about a horse.

For me, Meadowlands has been very good this year.
I used to LOVE Balmoral, but with most online wagering joints not taking them, it's a hassle to bet them from home.
The only tracks I regularly play anymore are Meadowlands, Sam Houston, Mountaineer and Hoosier harness when they start back up.

SQ,
You mentioned in your post that you're getting good results at The Meadowlands. Don't know how you do it. Good show anyway!
As for Balmoral Park, I know EBETUSA.COM carries that track on their 4 day-a-week racing schedule. Don't know about all their eligibility for membership requirements though. I know EHORSE.COM, an offshore racebook carries Balmoral on their full racing schedule.
As for Mountaineer Park, I noticed they're not on the cancellation list the last time I checked for Sun. Feb. 8

I do well at Meadowlands for 1 reason only.. I stick to 6/1 or better on anything I play. It's just impossible to hit a high percentage of races there and I realize that..
With my spreadsheet, it's hovering around 20% winners if I focus on strictly 6/1 or better. So doing the math, I can grind out a profit.
SQ....how true.
LAst night, I tired myself out chasing 5-2, 7-2, 2-1 shots, lost interest and as soon as i stopped, a legit 8-1 comes in!
Had that been my only play last night, I would be grilling steaks tonight.
What kind of wine goes with SPAM???

Tom,
I had a N.A.D. (Not-A-Dime) evening at The Big M on Sat. Feb. 8.
That was from playing mainly longer-priced horses with good form recently. It seems some of the longshots winning there lately, have a pattern of a super effort in their 2nd last start, followed by a dull, even kind of effort in their last start, then right back to a super effort again! I wonder if there's an idea for a system in there somewhere?...Hmmm....
Good line you had there about the wine and the spam. I had a good laugh when I read that one! As Ralph Kramden would probably say..."You're a RIOT, Tom...a regular RIOT". Thanks very much for the humor. I needed that kind of laugh, after that kind of evening of betting at The Big M harness races.

Ralph,
If I hadn't bet Santa Anita races this year, I might have had an opportunity to make a similar statement!

I was finally home all day in peace (my wife was out shopping all day) and I actually considered handicapping santa anita. After seeing the pathetic field sizes, I ended up playing Beulah!
They had a better card! :-)

About a week ago on this thread, I was mentioning that I was getting my best recent harness race results in this order:
1. Dover Downs + + +
2. Balmoral Park + +
3. Cal Expo +
4. Woodbine -
5. Meadowlands - - -
---This last week and the results were just about opposite to the above order! The Big M being the best... Woodbine second best..Cal Expo (not many bets there, so can't really comment either postively or negatively)...Balmoral Park not good at all...and Dover Downs - dreadful!
-- Funny how things can change from week-to-week, even though you're basically using the same handicapping methods. I should note however, that I did change some handicapping strategies at The Big M and Woodbine. Plus, I changed some betting methods late in the week. That seemed to have helped somewhat, with some positive results for a change at the Big M and Woodbine.
--Just wish things could be more consistent at the harness tracks in the positive results column. But then again, once you make your bets, the results out on the track are out of your control. The results at the harness races somedays, remind me of the title of that old Charlton Heston movie... i.e. "The Agony and The Ecstasy"!...LOL....

I'll chime in with my reply:
My best tracks (in order):
Hippodrome de Québec
Balmoral Park
Northville Downs
Freehold Raceway
I've played the races at Québec five times on five separate occasions, and all five times I have made an absolute mint. Too bad I can't bet this track on a regular basis or watch it anywhere on the internet.
My worst tracks:
Woodbine/Mohawk
The Meadowlands
Any Ontario track (except Windsor)
Fraser Downs
If I had to bet on Wdb/Mhk or Med on a regular basis, then I would be on a first name basis with my bankruptcy lawyer.
Zman (could use some of that Québec luck right about now)

the trend continues for me, smashing B1 to bits so far, luck just hasn't been there at M1.

At Québec, the average win pool is about $1100, exacta pool is $1100, trifecta pool is $3500 and superfecta pool is $1000.
As you can tell, I'm not a $50 bettor, but I am I would say a $5 bettor (I'll bet usually around $20 a race). I've found that the value at this track, with it's small pools and all, offers tremendous value. And I'll bet into all the exotic pools there, but I'll only dip my foot into the super pool, usually no more than $8.
It certainly helps to know the average pool of any track that you're betting on. It gives you an advantage in regards to knowing what your betting limit is on a specific pool to avoid betting against yourself, and to know what certain numbers to punch to give you a chance at getting an "all" when you just miss.

Hey, the money spends just the same out of the $1000 pool as it does out of a $300,000 pool!
I play Rosecroft each week, which can have $1500-$3000 pools and catch flack from my handicapping buddies about playing there, as they only play Meadowlands, Belmont, Santa Anita, etc..
I tell them the same.. When I hit a $100 exacta at Rosecroft, they still give me 5 crisp $20 bills :-)

i have never had any success at any track for any period of time like i'm having at B1 since jan1 of this year. Doing nothing especially new, just the same old shape handicapping, charts and replays.
