Jon White does a crappy job setting the M/L at Santa Anita.
Does it hurt me, or help me, as a bettor? Definitely the latter.
The problem is, he shouldn't be getting paid for such sloppy work,
if it is of his own doing.

Nearly all of the morning lines at SA total way over 130%, sometimes 140.
Since when is the take out that high on win betting?
California has one of the lowest take outs on WPS.
Around 16%, last I looked.

Morning lines should be set to around 120%.
125% is on the high side, but excusable.
130%+ becomes a joke when it happens race after race.
Maybe, he is under orders to keep the odds low so the bettors think they are getting value when their horses odds usually go off higher?
That is the only excuse I can think of for his lousy math.
Savvy marketing, perhaps?

The bright side of all of this?
The vast majority of cappers on this website can set a more accurate M/L than the one produced at Santa Anita.
That can only help you in the long run.

This has been happening for a while now, nobody seems to care about this either.

morning line is for losers....A real true handicapper will not go
for a morning line odds....I don't....I pick out my contenders, and than
have a system to pick out two horses a race, no matter what the
morning line is....I faith in your handicapping and don't worry about
the morning line, who cares about it....
