Traynor, I would ask, perhaps you could explain further, how this may affect the usual Windows user....

I thought that for the average user, Java, was passe'....Is this true ?..., If not, what can the average user do to protect himself better from some Java vulnerabilities when browsing ?....

Thx ahead...

FWIW, the latest Java Update won't even install on my machine (after more than half-a-dozen different tries and different methods).

It provides a dll error and reporting as corrupted.

About a month ago I went to Control Panel - Programs and deleted Java. So far I don't think it has mattered one iota.

I deleted it too, we'll see if I actually need it for something. I used to need it to see the animated doppler radar loop via local TV news website, but then they updated, and it wasn't required anymore..

If you don't have Java, and you don't run Java applets on your computer, it probably won't be a problem. If you do, it might be worthwhile to look into it.
