How about this baby at 100k dollars in a snow storm?

That's quite the story.
It's too bad, the Tesla was the only one of those electrobiles that I would spend more than $3 on just based on aesthetics and every article I've read about them seems to be a scathing report of extreme disappointment that either ends in tow trucks or explosions.

somewhere, I read about someone who made a different type of battery that didn't need the traditional shape. If I can find it again I will post it.
I suspect that the lithium batteries are the problem. That is why I have chosen to wait.

I personally feel Elon Musk is complete trash... I obviously don't know him or anyone who does but that's basically how I feel about him. Just get the trashy vibe.

The "Top Gear Rebuttal" is from a previous dispute over a review.

With all the brilliant minds, that have worked on these cars, I can't believe that someone hasn't developed an alternator, that could charge the battery while driving, and also produce current necessary to operate things like radio, gauges, and other battery draining items in the car.

I believe that is basically what the regenerative braking does. You just can't produce enough energy with an alternator style device.

LEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Envisioning cars that can go "coast to coast without using a drop of oil," President Barack Obama on Friday urged Congress to authorize spending $2 billion over the next decade to expand research into electric cars and biofuels to wean automobiles off gasoline...
..."The only way to break this cycle of spiking gas prices — the only way to break that cycle for good — is to shift our cars entirely, our cars and trucks, off oil," the president said.
Maybe if we spent $2T instead of $2B, my coveted Tesla will make it all the way around the block.

Good News NJStinky!!!
Time to trade in that fossil fuel burning, non-American made jalopy for one of these electric wondermobiles!
DETROIT (AP) -- Electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc. says it has joined with two banks to finance a 10 percent down payment on its new Model S sedan.
The company also will give buyers the option to sell the car back to Tesla after three years at a value guaranteed by the automaker. The financing program makes buying the car similar to leasing it, Tesla said in a statement.
US Bank and Wells Fargo will make loans for the down payment, which eventually would be covered by a $7,500 federal tax credit for electric car buyers.

In 1990, I knew a guy who had a 1989 Jaguar that He was scared to drive. It towed out of my parking garage 5 or 6 times because it wouldn't start. It left him stranded only God knows how many times. He bought it new for 80K. He trade it for a Caddy and he was one happy man after that. Expensive cars are not always good cars. I told years latter that Jags of that period had trouble with their fuel injection.
I have my doubts that electric cars will be anything more than a show piece for quite sometime, but I have been wrong before. If they ever get it down pat, it will be a great thing for the country and very bad thing for the Arabs. If for no other reason, all Americans should be rooting for it.

I can think of another reason - we're subsidizing the everlovingshit out of it. GO ELECTROMOBILES!

I love the media reception to this plan.
Amid a drumbeat of publicity about a major announcement today, Tesla Motors dramatically took down its website and held a conference call to reveal...a fancy car loan.
For Tesla, having built 4,750 Model S sedans, such things still count as big news. And given the difficulties of selling an all-electric sedan that starts at $62,000 with worries about how long the batteries will last, the loan has a few unique quirks, including a personal guarantee from Elon Musk of the car's future value. But with a monthly payment of more than $1,000, it's not for everyone.
...
While Tesla says the deal can reduce the monthly cost of owning a Model S from a minimum of $1,051 to nearly $500 a month, its own calculator demonstrates acrobatics rarely seen outside a Cirque de Soleil show to reach that number, assuming things like business tax deduction and the value of time reclaimed from pumping gas. (It has no entry for time spent recharging.)
Poor Tesla just can't catch a break from these cynical critics. :D
