Keith Brackpool, chairman of the California Horse Racing Board for the last three years, announced Friday that he had notified the Office of Governor Edmund. G. Brown Jr. on Thursday that he was submitting his resignation from the Board, effective Thursday. CHRB Vice Chairman David Israel has assumed the duties of chairman.

The Stronach Group, owner of Santa Anita Park, Golden Gate Fields, and other racing interests, is expected to issue a statement soon indicating that Brackpool is buying an equity position in the company.

Somehow this one flew under the radar and was not commented on when it came out ten days ago. The CHRB has been much maligned, here on PA and elsewhere, for it's failure to see to the interests of the fan, and Mr. Brackpool has come under much of that criticsm, when he approved of increasing the takeout on exotic bets. Now joining the Stronach empire, and will oversee their racetracks? Unknown is what direction Mr. Israel, now acting chairman, will take the Board in, and who will be appointed to fill the new vacancy.
