Could someone tell exactly how GP is running 1 1/16th races?
It looks like they are starting just past the normal finish line for 1 1/8th and finishing just before the normal finish line, but it's hard to tell from the replays.

I believe the start is the same but the finish is up the track 110 yards.
It's the only thing that would make sense, at least to me.

They have 2 finish lines. The first finish line is only for the 8.5 furlong races

Pretty sure CJ's Dad is correct here.
They announce a finish line difference for some races.
edit - didn't see Gheuks' post

Just like Arlington and Keenland for 1 1/16th mile races.
Fairgrounds, Laurel, and Oaklawn also have auxilary finish lines for some distances.
The 1 1/16 finish line is 30-40 yards beyond the usual sixteenth pole, i.e. ~70-80 yards before the normal finish line.

Fairgrounds has done away with their alternate finish line (1/16 pole) and doesn't card races at 1m on dirt anymore

Seems like a good idea. I don't know why any track has to card these races with alternative finish lines. Card the proper distances. I can't believe bettors want these kinds of races.

It was driven by their 3yo series. Either they run 2 1 turn miles (Fountain of Youth and Holy Bull) and then the 9f Florida Derby or run 1 1 turn mile and two at 9f given current track configuration and no alternate line. I know they tried the latter and may have also tried the former. This was the only answer for having a progression of distance.

So they also start 30-40 yards after the real finish line correct?
