Um, does anyone have trouble seeing the horses when watching TuP races on tv or replays? I saw some TuP races today on TVG and i couldnt tell the numbers of the horses. I can't tell who's who until they put the numbers on the board. I dont seem to have a problem seeing the horses or numbers at others places, its like the video at TuP is 'foggy' for lack of a better word.

I had that same problem. Alot of the problem is the quality of the feed and the next part is how well your computer process the data.

get a new video card with a large amount of memory and see if that helps but I suspect it has more to do with what Turf Paradise is sending out.

Riles. Good chance to focus on the excellent calls of Mr. Michael Chamberlain.

It must be what they're sending out because i dont have this problem with any other tracks.

Poorly maintained, old tube cameras. Digital to those folks means having all your fingers and toes.

It's part of the very effective retro-chic marketing scheme. Add in the hardcore graphics with the will-pay frames that look like schematics to a transistor radio and an absolute relentless barrage of the same three local advertisers for ten minutes between races and it brings you back to a better time. In fact, don't be shocked if a seemingly sped-up player piano is phased in as the new caller if they need to double down on the old-school presentation when this season's handle figs are released.

Same fuzzy foggy video at the SoCal otb sites, this seems to be the situation all over. Do enjoy the calls of Mike Chamberlain, whose ability may not be widely known because TUP is a minor track. Play this track only rarely, that mutuel takeout is brutal, 20% on win bets is terrible.

My guess is that for the tracks that TVG receives a direct fiber feed (ie. Aqueduct, Turfway, Woodbine, Santa Anita) you will notice a better picture quality and less latency. In the case of Turf Paradise, Tampa Bay Downs and others the source feed is most likely the crappy time delayed Dish Network ones - signal has been processed several times before you get to see it resulting in a sh!tty picture...... Would be nice if they could use direct fiber feeds for all tracks they cover.....

The delay is nothing to do with whether there is a fiber feed or not.
To my knowledge, there are no "fiber feeds" from racetracks to RTN.
It's all via satellite uplink and downlink.
Local broadcast stations are fed to Dish via fiber. But only as far their respective uplink centers.
Here's how it works. The tv station's over the air signal is received at a Telco "Point of Presence( PoP)...Inside this building is a rack where the signals are processed and then transmitted over a long distance fiber network. The signals are sent to an uplink center. In my local station's case that facility is in Mt Jackson, VA which is some 350 miles distant. From there the signal is uplinked to Dish's satellites in space and back down to Earth to the customers.
As far as racetracks are concerned, it's via uplink from the track or via standard wireline (could be fiber but not likely) to a simulcast uplink center. For example there is a Penn National uplink center at their simulcast wagering center in Chambersburg, PA. Then the signal is uplinked to a satellite which is a C-Band bird. Then back down to Earth to Dish's downlink facility. The signal is then processed by Dish, uplinked to their satellite at the 118.7( West Longitude) then back down to the Dish customers. And that is where the additional delay occurs.
