Ferry accident in Manhattan

Emergency crews carted several passengers on stretchers toward ambulances. There was a gash on the front of the ship, and support boats circled the area.

From what I gathered from watching the news the captain simply didn't stop in time and plowed into the docking. A couple of people are critically injured.
I don't know how tightly they pack vehicles there. Two I know of on the Texas/Louisiana coast pack them often only 10 or 12 inches apart. Such a sudden stop seems to me would cause the vehicles to pile up. What a mess.
