He died at age 34 . Eclipse winner at age two . So glad he lived a long life
and was well cared for .
If you are a friend on FB of Barbara Livingston , she has some wonderful
photos of the Old Champ and Danny Perlsweig . Boy he kept that horse close to his heart , beautiful thing to see .

RIP!

Winter book favorite for the '81 Derby. I remember Andrew Beyer's dislike for "Lord Average" due to his unimpressive speed figures, relative to Cure The Blues.

The outlook was exciting for "Lord" in Feb. 1981...

Beyer never got to see that . After the Florida Derby win , Avie was out with injury .
He never ran worse than third . 16 starts and he wa 8-4-4 and he ran with some very good company . Syndicated for ten million . He sired hard knockin Cloudys Knight and was a popular Broodmare sire . Lawyer Ron was one from a mare by Lord Avie .
Thanks for the SI Vault link . I always enjoy the stories they they published
about racing .

Bloodhorse had a feature where they went through all the horses we lost this year.

Pearlswig visited his old friend every year last seeing him in April. Loyalty to a horse that opened many doors for him as he said in the BH article. What a great person to keep his old friend a part of his life for so long.
